Better decisions, better outcomes

Improving lives by returning power to local communities and individuals

Empowering people and communities to thrive by tackling poverty

System of Systems

A systems approach is rarely applied to socio-economic issues. For example, the quality of housing and well-being are closely related but housing and health policy rarely intercept.

Investment in People and Assets

Securing meaningful investment that supports community-led activities that address real issues. Spending and investment is often determined by the funders criteria not the local community.

Organisation Support

Supporting community organisations to become more entrepreneurial and sustainable whilst, equipping people with the appropriate skills and knowledge to create change.

Agency and Power

Telling people what they need does not work. We need to return agency and power at a local level so there is an ongoing dialogue regarding policy decisions

Our Projects

At Sustainable Communities Alliance (SCA) we work on evidence-based initiatives and projects that benefit local communities. We are presently working in three areas, mental health, food poverty and community engagement. All our projects are designed to achieve maximum impact for each pound spent.

Returning power to local communities

“It has been a consistent finding over four years that over 70% of the public feel they have ‘not very much’ or ‘no control’ over the decisions that affect their neighbourhood or local community.” Report from Power to Change...

About Sustainable Communities Alliance (SCA)

Society is not working for the vast majority, it is simply serving a small elite. We need to do things differently, politically, socially and as individuals. Using disruptive models in business has become commonplace and we need to now start challenging consensual thinking on how to tackle socio-economic issues such as poverty and health.

Our methodology (how we work)

Key to our success is to take a holistic systems approach, use an evidence-based decision-making process and support and promote small community-based groups

Policy Making

Policy making has become so disconnected from real people’s lives we aim to address this problem via a series of projects. The key to this is to enable a community engagement network, where people direct policy rather than have it implemented upon them from above.
